I have a passion for beauty products. I love trying them out. I love shopping for them, and I love watching beauty routines on Youtube. What I find lacking, is the tutorials and beauty guides for ladies my age...well let's just say ladies over the age of 30. I just want some really solid tips and tricks using models my age that tell me how to get my concealer not to settle into my fine lines, and how the heck do I counteract those nasty dark circles
under my eyes (DO NOT tell me I need to drink more water...at this age I already drink enough to make me pee every five minutes, thank you!)
How about some great tutorials for applying eyeshadow on my hooded eyelids - BUT NOT from a girl that's 20 and doesn't really have hooded eyes. I mean, come on!
Another good one is some recommendations for foundation that covers up my blotchy skin but doesn't look caked on because I'm 47 and my skin is dry as heck.
Ok phew, rant over. For now.
So in the meantime, while we're waiting around for someone in the Youtube industry to read this blogpost...I'll give you my top picks for each catagory in makeup for over 40, Enjoy!
Foundation: Gorgiou Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Foundation, It Cosmetics CC Cream Why these? Of all the countless foundations that I've purchased and sampled, these three are my holy grail. Lightweight, natural skin still shows through BUT you can build them up to a more full coverage if that's what you're going for. Especially for dry skin - it isn't going to look like cake on your face (never a good look). The IT Cosmetics CC Cream is amazing for wearing while working out or going to the beach. It has a built in color corrector (the "cc") that helps combat blotchy skin or dark circles.
Powder: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish, Laura Mercier Translucent Loos Setting Powder Why? These two powders are must haves for aging skin. They will not settle into fine lines and wrinkles and (yes I know they're not cheap) but they work! I've yet to find a drugstore brand that does the job.
Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Why? I've tried them all ladies, and this one is by far my favorite. It is exactly the right consistency for dry skin but not too sheer that it doesn't do the job. NARS also has the best shade range of all of the brands that I've tried.
Color Corrector: LA Girl Pro Prep HD Color Correcting , Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish!
Why? This color corrector might be cheap but it is amazing! I use the second shade from the left every single day. And a little bit goes a long way!
The Charlotte Tilbury corrector is amazing as well (but definitely on the pricier side) - so just depends on your preference.
Contour: Anastasia Creamy Contour Palette Cream products are a must for aging skin. I have not found a better cream contour palette than this one. I tried NYX - it didn't cut it. Not blendable at all! This one takes the cake and keeps the cake off your skin! Just add the contour where you want it and blend away. Tap a little powder on top
Eyeshadow: Any Urban Decay shadow or palette (they are the best for crepey, dry lids hands down) Why? For whatever reason, their eyeshadows blend the best on my eyelids. I've tried super expensive brands and I always come back to my Naked palettes and my stand alone shadows from Urban Decay. They blend so well and so easily!
Lipliner: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Pencil (mine is in the shade Pillow Talk) Her lip liners are so creamy and she has such beautiful color options for rosy undertones. I'm a huge fan of her lip liners and her lipsticks! I think when your skin is aging, you definitely need a lip liner that doesn't bleed and also is easy to apply. She checks both boxes.
Lipstick: Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick (Mine is in the shade Pillow Talk) Why? Beautiful consistency and the color stays on without drying out my lips. Long gone are the days where I can wear a matte, all-day lip color. It will literally eat away at my skin and cause my lips to be SO dry.
Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil Why? It is a creamy, long lasting eyeliner that I can use in my water line daily. It is so pigmented and doesn't cause me to pull and tug at my eyes when applying. 10 out of 10 for me!
Eyebrow Pencil: Anastasia Brow Wiz (I use shade Medium Brown) Why? This is a tried and true for me. I've tried many other brands and nothing compares. It isn't too harsh but it does give those pencil strokes that make filling in your brows more natural. It's creamy enough to blend into your natural hairs but has amazing staying power. This brand also has a standard pencil option and a brow definer but I always come back to this one.
So what are your favorite products? Leave me a comment below and let me know what you can't live without! XOXO
